Have you heard the hype about Everything bagel seasoning? In just a few years, the seasoning mixture went from bagel topping obscurity to enhancing the hottest menu items at of-the-moment eateries nationwide.

Still not sure what the fuss is about?

Everything bagel seasoning has been building a major following of Trader Joe’s shoppers. The popular grocery store stocks jars of “Everything but the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend” that fans love to experiment with, then post pictures of their culinary creations on Instagram and Pinterest. You could say that the seasoning has an almost cult following at this point.

Everything bagel seasoning is most commonly used as a spice blend for breakfast foods, but the savory, salty flavors top everything from bagels to popcorn, Cobb salad, or cottage cheese. The slightly crunchy, nutty mixture amps up the taste of pretty much anything you can think of.

What can you use it on? Mix it into cream cheese for a flavorful spread. Add it to hummus or other another dip. Blend it into mac and cheese or scrambled eggs. Top toast or bread sticks. Swirl it into cottage cheese or plain Greek yogurt. Bake in on chicken or roasted veggies... Really, the question is more like, 'what can’t you use it on?'

Interested in trying it on your own?

Different bagel shops have slightly different Everything blends, but there are several ingredients that seem to repeat no matter what, including in Trader Joe’s recipe. This includes poppy seeds, toasted sesame seeds, dried garlic, dried onion, and coarse sea salt. The best part of making your own blend is that you can control the mixture to your liking, so feel free to alter it a bit to your tastes.
